Featured Presenters: Peter Wang & Dr. Jim Bednar


Dr. Jim Bednar is a Solutions Architect at Continuum Analytics. He is also an Honorary Fellow in the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Dr. Bednar holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Texas, along with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Philosophy. He has published more than 50 papers and books about the visual system and about software development. Dr. Bednar manages the open source Python projects HoloViews, ImagGen, Param, and Datashader.

Before Continuum, Dr. Bednar was a lecturer and ressearcher in Computational Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, as well as a software and hardware engineer at National Instruments.

Peter Wang is the Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder of Continuum Analytics and the creator of Bokeh, the interactive visualization framework.

He has been developing commercial scientific computing and visualization software for over 15 years. He has software design and development experience across a broad variety of domains, including finance, medical imaging, and geophysics.

As a creator of the PyData conference, he devotes time and energy to growing the Python data community, and advocating and teaching Python at conferences worldwide. He is a frequent speaker at technical conferences, giving talks at Strata + Hadoop World, the Global Big Data Conference, SciPy, PyCon, and many more.

Peter holds a BA in Physics from Cornell University.
